CannabIP: Hemp Now Accepted For PVP Protection
On April 24, 2019, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that the Plant Variety Protection Office (PVPO) will begin accepting applications for new, distinctive hemp-based seed-propagated plants for Plant Variety Protection (PVP) Certificates, as a result of the 2018 Farm Bill signed December 20, 2018. Hemp is the non-psychoactive element of C. sativa plant, in which the properties have been used industrially for over 12,000 years. It was only legalized for industrial purposes in the United States by the 2018 Farm Bill.
PVP Certificates are another type of intellectual property, which is a form of plant breeders rights protection available for new, distinct, uniform, and stable sexually reproduced or tuber propagated plant varieties. For more information PVP protections, please contact us at Yonaxis.
