patent Tech Patents

U.S. Patent No. 10,363,772 B2 (‘772), issued on July 30, 2019, for “Turkey Fan Favorite.”  The inventor is Charles D. Brown of Rydal, Georgia.  The ‘772 specification describes an invention which allows for displaying device of a recently-harvested turkey for photograph by the hunting party without the need to hold the turkey in place while hunter can hold the camera device in both hands to take the picture.  The ‘772 claims are directed to the apparatus for displaying the spread turkey tails, in a 4¾“ wide by 5½” tall U-shaped display device, with further limitations as to how to attach the turkey’s body and the center quill for posing.

Figure 1a illustrates the frontview display apparatus, with a side-view shown by Figure 1b below.

The Cooperative Patent Classifications are B44C (producing decorative effects, namely, processes for producing special ornamental bodies, e.g., ornamental plaques (5/04), mountings for pictures (5/02), and natural ornaments (5/06)); A01M (catching, trapping, or scaring of animals, namely, hunting appliances, e.g., decoys (31/06)); and F16M (frames, casings, or beds of engines, namely, for supporting on, or attaching to, an object, e.g., tree, gate, window-frame (13/02)).

While eccentric in nature, the ‘772 patent is an example that new inventions are issued as patents to the sole applicant/inventor; patents are not limited to large companies with legions of employees at their disposal for patent harvesting.  The ‘772 invention, while simple in design, addressed a particular problem in the field, namely, displaying a recently acquired game for purposes of taking a hands-free picture.

Happy Thanksgiving!
