U.S. Patent No. 10,485,373 B1

Cannabis IP patent

U.S. Patent No. 10,485,373 B1 (‘373) issued on November 26, 2019, entitled ”Method for Cannabinoid Delivery Into Beverages.”  It was issued to inventors Rory Chesley Patrick Millikin of Kelowna, Canada, and Matthew Kennedy of Westminster, California.  The assignee is Drive Foods Corporation of Westminster, California.

The specification discloses a new cannabinoid beverage delivery system.  According to the perceived problem with current cannabis-product coffee delivery systems is that is the cannabinoids do not penetrate the standard coffee filters.  The claimed invention, therefore, solves this problem by placement of a predetermined amount of the cannabis product within the filter.  The ‘373 claims are directed to a system for delivery comprising the single-serve brewing machine with the predetermined cannabis-filled filter, in which the filter is 20 μm and the particles less than 10 μm.

Fig. 7 illustrates the claimed invention:

The Cooperative Patent Classification is A47J, kitchen equipment, coffee mills, spice mills, apparatus for making beverages, namely, apparatus for making beverages, namely, coffee-making apparatus, in which the brewing vessel is placed about or in the upper part of the beverage container (31/10), and beverage-making apparatus with dispensing means for adding a measured quantity of ingredients, e.g., coffee, water, sugar, cocoa, milk, tea with ingredient-containing cartridges (31/407); and apparatus for making beverages, namely, filters or strainers for coffee or tea makers (31/06).

This is an interesting new coffee-dispensing system, in which several cannabis-related patents have been issued recently.  The ‘373 patent, however, differs slightly from previous issued patents because it claims the system, rather than the method of use or apparatus itself.  Please contact Yonaxis for more information or if you have any questions.
