U.S. Patent No. 10,091,202 B2 (‘202), issued on October 2, 2018, for “Text Suggestions for Images.” The inventors are Aleksandr V. Kennberg and Alexander Nicolaou, both of Waterloo, Canada. The applicant and assignee is Google LLC of Mountain View, California, the huge tech company focused around its search engine, but is part of the larger conglomerate of tech companies, Alphabet, Inc. The ‘202 specification describes what is essentially an algorithm for an image/text suggestion. The ‘202 claims are directed to the system, method, and apparatus of creating and extracting of the image/text suggestion algorithm, which includes receiving the user request, generating features of the image in order to identify the image, producing one or more possible keywords for the image, transmitting the keywords to text, having the user select the keyword, then both image and keyword are transmitted via text message.
Figure 2C illustrates the image/text suggesting algorithms.
The Cooperative Patent Classifications are G06F (electric digital data processing), and H04L (transmission of digital information, e.g., telegraphic communication).
Google historically has made annual appearances at CES. Its updated smartphone product, Pixel 3, launched last fall but it does not appear that the tech described in the ‘202 patent is encompassed in the new Pixel 3. It may appear in a later version of the Pixel. Given Google’s strength in the searching field of art, this patent makes logical sense as an addition to its portfolio.
CES always brings out fascinating new consumer tech. If you have any questions on the patenting process, please contact Yonaxis for more information.
